Important information about your child’s First Holy Communion
Dear Parent / Carer,
I am writing to invite you to attend a meeting to enroll your child to prepare for their First Confession and First Holy Communion this year. You can attend any of the
following meetings to sign up your child and learn about the preparation classes. You may bring your children with you.
Wednesday 18th January in St. Sebastian’s School after school
Thursday 19th January in St. Oswald’s School (Junior building) after school
Thursday 19th January in St. Oswald’s Church at 6pm
(for any parent unable to attend one of the meetings after school).
Friday 20th January in St. Cuthbert’s School after school
Every child making their First Holy Communion is expected to attend a special
enrolment Mass on Sunday 5th February.
9.30am at St. Oswald’s Church
11am at St. Sebastian’s Church
Preparation classes will take place as follows.
St. Cuthbert’s School Mondays at 3.30pm – 6th, 13th and 27th February

St. Oswald’s Church Thursdays at 3.30pm – 9th and 16th February and 2nd March
St. Oswald’s Church Thursdays at 6pm – 9th and 16th February and 2nd March
At the enrolment meetings you will be asked to choose which class you will be
attending each week. You may choose any class at any venue.
Children will make their First Confession / Reconciliation at one of three services on
8th March at 6pm in St. Oswald’s Church
9th March at 6pm in St. Oswald’s Church
10th March at 6pm in St. Sebastian’s Church
The first class is a time to learn all about your parish church so the meetings will take
place in your church. Children from St. Cuthbert’s will come to St. Oswald’s church on 6th February. Children from St. Sebastian’s will come to St. Sebastian’s church on 1st February straight after school.
An adult family member must assist their child during all the classes. You cannot drop off your child for the class and pick them up an hour later.
If your child is not a baptised Catholic but they would like to make their First Holy
Communion with their classmates this year please make sure you talk to Fr. Mark at the enrolment meeting.
There will be three further classes after Easter preparing your child for their First Holy
Communion. Dates for these classes will be given at the enrolment meetings.
First Holy Communion Masses will take place on Saturday 17th and Saturday 24th June. There will be four Masses in all.
Please contact the parish office if you have any questions on 0151 2283327. The First
Holy Communion classes are organised by your parish so it is not normally possible for school staff to answer questions about the classes.
