Reception – Make a Monster

Morning Reception! I hope you’re all happy and healthy. Here’s a nice activity to try at home:

1) Play the ‘make a monster’ game with a grownup or a sibling by folding a piece of paper into three or four sections and taking it in turns to draw the different body parts of the monster..keep them secret to get the funniest looking monsters!

2) Colour and decorate your monster to bring it to life!

3) Create a model of your monster out of playdough, plasticine or junk modelling/recycling around the house.

4) Talk to your grownups about the monster. What are they called? Where do they live? What kind of personality do they have?

5) Write about your monster using WOW words to describe their looks and behaviour. You could even try writing a short poem about them!

Here’s an example me and my children did together…we called him ‘Haydepus’

Haydepus was a terrifying beast, His flaming blue hair lights up his next feast. With octopus legs, crab like claws And razor sharp teeth in his overslung jaws. If you spot The Haydepus, BEWARE! You might need a fresh pair of underwear!

Hello Reception, I hope you are having fun and have been helping at home. Sadly, Chester has not been having a good week. He has not been very helpful at all! Look at the photographs to see what he has been up to. Mrs Gentle could do with some ideas about what she could do.

Repeating Patterns

Hi Reception!

I hope you are all okay. Here is a challenge that might keep you busy using resources you can find outside (when it stops raining!)

Can you create a repeating pattern like the pictures attached? You can make your pattern trickier by including more objects each time.

I hope you are all keeping safe and enjoying spending so much time with your families. The teachers in reception have been chatting every day to try and think of exciting and fun challenges for you, we hope you have been enjoying them! Hi RJ! I really hope you’re all happy and healthy and trying to make the best of this strange situation! Hopefully you’ve been having a go at some of the activities the reception teachers have been putting on Weduc and having fun with your families. Remember to be extra good for your grown ups at home and keep working on your reading, writing and numbers! I’m sure you’ll have loads of stories of all the ways you’ve kept busy to tell me when we get back! I bet you can guess how I’m keeping myself and my family (and the neighbours!) entertained. Try your best to learn new life skills while at home like tying a shoelace or making a sandwich and remember to keep your bedrooms tidy! Needless to say I’m missing you all and can’t wait to see your smiling faces back in school before too long. Take care and stay safe. Mr Crowther
