Reception – Challenge

Good afternoon Reception, here is a challenge to keep you busy!

Reception – Reading and Phonics Games

Good afternoon reception, here’s an idea to make learning fun. Use the toys you have at home for some reading and phonics games. Here we stuck letters to toy cars and created ‘garages’ owned by toy people. The idea of the task was to match the sound on the car to the initial sound of the words on the garage. This could be made more challenging by using digraphs/trigraphs such as ‘ai’, ‘ee’, ‘igh’, ‘air’ etc on the cars and using words containing these on the garages. Add a story to make learning more fun. Maybe the cars were lost and needed help to find their way home! Spreading the garages around the room or garden would allow for a more active approach! Have fun and enjoy learning through play!

Reception – Changes in Spring

Good morning Reception!

Attached is an example of work done by Mr Crowther’s daughter Teddie.

Can you make your own list of changes you notice happen in spring? Remember to think about the features of a list, can you include a title and number each sentence?

Reception – Character Descriptions

Good Afternoon Reception,

During this term we were learning about Traditional Tales. I’d like to set you a challenge today to pick one of your favourite characters from the stories we looked at and write a character description for them (up to 3 sentences).

EYFS & KS1 – Writing Challenge

A reading and writing challenge for EYFS and KS1.

Step 1. Share a book with your grown-ups. This could be adult- or child-led depending on age and the book chosen!

Step 2. Discuss the book. What did you like about the book? How did the characters feel?

Step 3. Draw a picture from the story. This could be your favourite character or part of the story.

Step 4. Write about your picture! This could be a single word or short caption for younger children, all the way to full sentences in a paragraph for older and more confident pupils.

Here’s an example by Mr Crowther’s daughter, Teddie, done at home school today!

Have fun with your families everyone and grow your love of literacy.
