Choir Permission letter

Dear Parents/Carers,

As part of our Christmas celebrations and links with the local community, school have arranged for choir to visit local retirement and care homes to sing Christmas carols over the coming weeks.  As we can only take 20 children on each trip, we are trying to give all children in both infant and junior choirs a chance to go out and sing by allocating one of these dates for each child, meaning they will attend one care home.

Children will be back in school for normal collection time of 3:15pm when attending a care home. All choir are very welcome to attend our Mince pie and bauble/Christmas Fair but will need collecting from school at 4:30pm.

Children will be leaving school to sing on the following dates:

Tuesday 26th November – B & Q
Monday 2nd December – Vienna Court Nursing Home
Thursday 5th December – Brooklands Nursing Home
Monday 9th December – Greenacres Nursing Home

11th December – 2:30pm Mince pies and baubles at school Children need picking up at 4:30pm (No children to walk home on unaccompanied)

Thursday 12th December – Acresfield Nursing Home

Please provide permission for your children to attend these dates by signing and returning the slip on the attached letter (link below). These outings have been extremely successful over the past few years and enjoyed by all.

Thank you for your ongoing support with the music and singing at St Oswald’s,

Mr Crowther
Music Co-ordinator

Peer Massage Session letter

Dear Parents / Carers,

We would like to invite you to our Wellness Wednesday Peer Massage event on Wednesday 20th November at 9.00am – 10.00am.

Come and learn the massage strokes with your child/ren in our Junior School Hall where you can practice the strokes you can use at home to take time out and relax with your child.

The aim of the session is for you to learn the peer massage strokes that your child is learning in school, so they can be enjoyed at home together.

Peer massage helps children to feel calm and relaxed, releasing feel good endorphins to higher self-esteem and confidence.

It would be great to see you but as always there is a limited number of places available which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Please return the slip on the attached letter (link below) and await confirmation.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Hyland / Miss McKenna
Family Liaison Officers

Colomendy Trip Letter

Dear Parents & Carer,

I am pleased to be able to tell you that once again we have managed to book a suitable venue for a school residential trip for the summer term. After looking at other providers I am pleased to have been able to book Kingswood, Colomendy. They are able to offer adventures courses at a lower price than most providers.

The course we have booked is aimed at primary pupils and offers a powerful mix of active learning and fun. It helps pupils discover more about themselves, acquire and overcome obstacles and gives them a genuine sense of achievement all within a safe and supportive environment.

The dates for the trip are to be Friday 15th May to Sunday 17th May – taking place right after Y6 SATS tests. The cost of the trip will be £150. We have initially booked 80 places and would like to offer these places initially to year 6 children.

If you and your child are interested in your child attending this exciting residential then I would ask that you send in a non refundable deposit of £40.00 by Friday 9th December. I do realise that this is an expensive weekend and especially at this time of year your heart may sink at the price, but I have decided to plan much earlier this year to give parents the opportunity to pay a little weekly or monthly leading up to the trip. If there are any difficulties in paying the deposit but you would like your child to attend, then please do not hesitate to contact Miss Sime to discuss the matter further.

I am sure that this trip will be a fabulous experience for your children to maybe try activities that they have not tried before and to be away from home with their peers, increasing their self confidence and independence, prior to transition to secondary education.

On Friday 29th November I have arranged a parents meeting at 2.30pm in the school hall. At the meeting there will be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the trip in more detail.

Looking forward as always to your continued co-operation,

Miss C Sime
Deputy Headteacher

Enterprise Fair Thank You Letter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all those who supported our first St. Oswald’s Enterprise Fair. It was a real success and the children thoroughly enjoyed designing company logos, carrying out market research, costing, advertising, designing, making and selling their products. The children also learnt a lot about what is involved in making a profit in a business.

Each year group spent money within a given budget to buy the materials needed to make their products. They then decided on a price to sell their products and all profits raised went to their chosen charities. Thank you to all those who purchased items and helped raise money for these charities. I am sure you agree that all year groups made an excellent effort.

YEAR GROUP CHARITY PROFIT MADE AFTER PURCHASING COSTS
Nursery ZOE’S PLACE £31.00
RECEPTION CMV ACTION £31.50
Y1 SEPSIS TRUST £95.00

Times Tables Rock Stars Letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

We use a programme in school called ‘Times Tables Rock stars’ which helps develop and reinforce knowledge of times tables and division facts for all pupils from Y1-Y6. As well as using this programme in school, all children in these classes have their own user name and password to continue this practice at home. Times tables are recognised as essential to access many mathematical concepts as they progress through school and from June 2020, their fluency and accuracy in times tables will be assessed at the end of Y4 by a National test.

We are taking part in a competition next week that ‘Times Tables Rock stars’ are running as part of Maths Week England. It’s called ‘Rock Out 2019’ and it’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com. For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours). Winning classes in the school and in the country as a whole will be the ones with the highest average. At the end of the competition, we will arrange some school and class prizes.

All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count, so that all abilities and ages can access points for their class but only from games played between 7.30am and 7.30pm on Monday 11th, Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th.

In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them. We suggest a limit of half an hour a day outside school hours – some will play more, some will play less.

‘Times Tables Rock stars is used in many schools across the country and worldwide and its child friendly approach has had great success in increasing the speed, accuracy and confidence when learning and practising times tables. We hope that next week’s competition will show the children what they can achieve with regular practice and will motivate them to continue to use the programme at home throughout the year.

Thank you for your continual support.
