#OnlineSafetyAtHome

Thinkuknow have created some online resources for Online Safety at Home and Gaming

Online gaming can offer many positive experiences. It can give children and young people the chance to escape into a virtual world, to learn, and to connect with others.

However, there is a risk of children and young people viewing inappropriate content in games and being contacted by adults seeking to exploit them.

This week your activity pack for parents and carers to deliver to their children explores how they can stay safe while gaming:

Year 2 Wider Reopening Letter

RE: Year 2 children returning to school

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am pleased to be able to tell you that Public Health England have now advised Liverpool Council that it is safe to open school wider to welcome back some children in the next few weeks. Therefore, we will be inviting Year 2 children back to school on Monday 6th July. Our teachers are really excited and are looking forward to seeing all the smiling faces and finding out all the exciting things that the children have learnt with their families during lockdown.

Before you return though, I need to just explain a few things about what school will be like when you do come back because unfortunately, due to Covid 19, the government has asked us to make a few changes to help keep you and your families safe. I’m sure you already know lots about social distancing and this is a big part of the changes we have had to make. We know that younger children find this really challenging, but we will teach them through fun games and songs about trying to keep apart. We have a detailed risk assessment that you can find on Weduc and our website that will tell you all the controls we have had to put in place

One of the biggest is the restriction on the number of children that we are advised to have in each class bubble and our risk assessment has identified smaller than normal bubble groups. The government have told us that we can only have a maximum of 15 in each class, but in St Oswald’s we do not have the space required for 15, so our numbers are much smaller than that.

Prior to giving out all of our arrangements, it would be really helpful for our planning to know if you are sending your child back to school before the summer holiday. The more information we have the more we can prepare to welcome them back. So, can I ask that you fill in the questionnaire that can be found on our website.

At present, we only have 24 places available for Y2 children. These will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Y2 children who have been accessing bubbles as children of key worker children will automatically be allocated a place.

On our website and Weduc, you will also find an updated Code of Conduct and Home School Agreement in line with COVID 19.

Thank you in advance,

Mrs D Hay

Parental Controls Booklet

Knowsley City Learning Centres have produced a guide to using Parental Controls.

This guide will help you set up parental controls to provide your child with a safer online environment. Parental controls can help to protect your child from seeing something that they shouldn’t – although it is important to emphasise that no system is effective all of the time so it is important to engage with your child and talk to them about their online life regularly.

You will learn about:

  • Operating Systems
  • Home Internet
  • Consoles
  • Social Media TV/Streaming
  • Search Engines
  • Mobile Devices
  • Smart Devices

School Meals Message

RE: School Meals

Due to the increasing number of children now returning to school, as of Monday 29th June, all children requiring a school meal to be provided (FSM, universal offer or paid) will be given a ‘grab bag’ lunch. The reason for this is to ensure that bubbles of children do not cross and to maintain social distancing for all. The content of ‘grab bags’ provided will vary from day to day to include sandwiches, sausage rolls, pasta pots, fruit, cake, biscuits and water.

If you usually have a school meal and would now prefer to provide your child with a packed lunch from home, please inform the school office.

Packed lunches should be brought into school in a disposable bag.

Thank you,

Miss D Hay

Year 6 Returning Monday 22nd June letter

RE: Year 6 returning Monday 22nd June

Dear Parents/Carers & Y6,

Finally, we have all the information we need to make sure that there is a smooth return to school on Monday. Everyone is really looking forward to catching up with all the new learning and experiences you have had with your families during lockdown.

You have all been told the bubble you are in and where that bubble is going to be taught, also the start and pick up times. Please stick to these times and locations to avoid unnecessary crowding.  If adults are accompanying children to and from school it should only be one adult, remembering only children will be allowed on the premises. Children should bring coats, water bottle, any inhalers and a disposable packed lunch if you are providing your own.

As soon as you arrive at your entrance you will be greeted by school staff,  parents/carers will be asked to sign to say that you agree with the Home/School agreement, children will be asked to sign to say you will keep to the Code of Conduct as much as possible.

Once in school you will be encouraged to wash hands or use hand gel, again this will help us all to stay well and reduce any potential virus spreading. The building will look very different with taped flooring for social distancing and spread out desks. Don’t worry, the teachers will spend some time explaining how school will work and what you can and can’t do. It’s a bit like the changes to the supermarket and we all got used to those quickly.

A reminder that school uniform is not expected, comfortable easy to clean clothes are best but no jewellery please.

I would also ask that no one asks to change bubbles, we have spent a long time working with all the year 6 adults to make sure that everyone is with one friend at least. It is impossible to have all the friends together, but we are living in very difficult times and we have to follow the guidance. We are not allowed to change children in bubbles or staff moving from bubble to bubble, once you come back, that is the arrangement until the end of term. Your adults will make sure every bubble has a good time in school.

Finally, I hope that you are all looking forward to joining our school family again so that you will be able to spend at least a few weeks being together, although socially distanced.

See you Monday,

Mrs Walsh
Headteacher
