Curriculum – Year 2
Year Group Overview
Y2 is the final year in key stage 1, we continue to develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding in all curriculum areas. At the end of this academic year, each child will be assessed against national standards. They will be assessed in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Science and these assessments are designed to check that children in all schools are making progress.
Homework in Year 2
Homework will be given out each Monday to be completed and returned on Friday.
The children will bring their reading books home every night to read. Please sign their books when they have read and continue to read daily with your child.
Maths homework will be given out weekly to reinforce work done in class. The children need to know their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables before the end of year 2. They have individual passwords for Rock star Times tables to access at home.
Spellings will be given out on Monday for a quiz on Friday.
In addition to weekly spelling rules, the children need to learn to read and spell the Common Exception words for their age group. Joined handwriting homework may sometimes be given.
